About
A building is a portrait of a decade.
Painted Threshold paints houses. Not house styles, and not a tasteful cottage that resembles yours: the rooflines, the window rhythm, the porch that isn’t quite square, the brick somebody chose in a year you were not born.
Most of what we are asked to paint is a house someone is leaving, or has already left. A first home, a childhood address, a place sold after a death. That shapes what we do with the photograph: we will paint out the bins and the neighbour’s van, and we will leave the crooked gate, because the crooked gate is the point.
Houses are wide and our prints are square, so the frame crops close to the walls. If the setting matters more than the building—the hill behind it, the tree your father planted—say so when you order and we compose for it.
Three renderings from one photograph, watermarked, before you pay anything. If the building in them is not your building, it costs you nothing.
We are a family of artists, passionate about the act of creation. Some of us have been creating for seventy years. We recognize that times change, so we decided to embrace them: the speed of creating art has accelerated, and ideas become reality in days or weeks rather than months or years.
This studio began with a realization—nearly all of the AI art we see doesn’t inspire us—and with the idea that we could build something better. If we are successful, the oil paintings we create in our own studio can hang in our own homes and don’t need to be advertised to support our family.
